The Mill – Showreel
This is the second soundtrack I was commissioned to write for London editing house The Mill’s showreel. Filmically one of the most beautiful projects I have worked on, but also one of the most logistically complicated. Built around a pre-edited fast-moving sequence of shots. Working in tandem with Rick Waller, one of the most musically sensitive editors I’ve worked with, we built up the finished sequence in a number of stages.
We started by splitting the whole into a skeletal base by setting a click-track tempo which fitted for each individual section. We then decided on a style for each section, with which I built a rhythmic layer. There were another three stages of building with both music track and picture edit, until we arrived at the final result.
